I took the strengths finder quiz on April 7, 2019 and strengths was all the rage. I was becoming very good at following "all the rage" paths because that's what my leaders told me I needed to do. I thought the results were pretty good but I didn't dive into them because I just wasn't sure what to do with them. And, quite honestly, we moved on from the strengths into a realm of something else to follow because it was "the best way to run your business."
Between April 2019 until September 2020 I followed every training that was suggested, every business building guide that was printed, and tried my damndest to be a cookie cutter image of my leaders. I paid for all kinds of online courses, got a life coach, memorized the scripts, and most recently ran through the Back to Basics course and participated in Silver Club. I was a duplication machine! And I was getting absolutely nowhere. I have been an off and on Elite Rank for the past 2 years.
In September I made a major decision. I was going rogue. I was done trying to be someone and something that I wasn't. I was tired of doing the same thing over and over again and not seeing results. I was done being someone else. I took the entire month of September off from my business. I did little things here and there but nothing major. In that month, I realized I couldn't keep building my business the way I had been.
In October I started hosting my own classes, online and in person. I connected with each and every one of my team on a personal level, without scripted calls. I got creative again, hosted make and takes, and created fun little items for people to get excited about. I began building those relationships again. And then this gal, Jennifer Bitner showed up in my Facebook feed talking about how to use that magical planner I bought. I enrolled in her 3 day course, took away some great nuggets, and got a little more excited.
Then she had a Facebook Live interview with you. When the two of you started talking about being authentic to who you are, not being the cookie cutter type, and being comfortable with yourself it was like you were talking to me directly. I signed up for the Strengths of Diamonds course before you even had finished talking about it. My excitement kept growing the more I listened to the two of you.
As I watch these interviews, I am being drawn to those with similar strengths. I thought I would have many common strengths with Jennifer Bitner but I actually have more with Justin Harrison. When he talked about focusing on your strengths and not the bottom 5, that was mind blowing. We ARE taught to focus on what we aren't good at. That seems ridiculous now! I'm just finishing Zia Nix's interview and finding I have a few of her strengths. I'm excited to go through the rest of the interviews and see what I have in common and take the little nuggets of information from each person. The commonality I have found with these leaders is that when they talk, especially about building a business, they are speaking directly to the person who needs to hear what they have to say.
But most of all, what just the few interviews have shown me is that I am unique. I am intentional. And I am a person that resonates with other people. I am drawn to the people that need me and I am here to serve them. I am also learning that it is ok to let go of the cookie cutter and do your own thing. For years and years I have felt that I would ONLY succeed if I followed the scripts word for word, looked the part, and was just like everyone else.
I know that you asked a simple question about how I am liking the interviews so far, but I have felt the urge all day to thank you for doing these interviews, for reminding me about the strengths I have, and for speaking to me without even knowing who I am. This has come at a time in my life, and I'm sure in the lives of others, who need the support, who need to be heard, who need to know it's ok to be unique.
So thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for bringing back what I should have been working on the entire time, my strengths."
